Washington School will be closed tomorrow, Friday, September 14th, 2018. All other district schools will follow a regular school day schedule. District administration is working to secure a temporary location for Washington School students beginning Monday, September 17th, 2018. Upon county approval, details will be provided tomorrow via your school registered email regarding pickup/drop off, classroom assignments, and other logistics.
It is important to share that the elevated soil gas screening levels of benzene, chloroform, ethylbenzene, and trichloroethene did not indicate that we were required to close school. We felt strongly that this proactive, conservative approach be implemented for the safety of students and staff. While this has been unexpected and frustrating in many ways for our parents, students, and staff, please know that district administration will continue to work actively to resolve this issue as quickly as possible. A parent and community information session will be scheduled in the near future where all parents and community members will be welcome. The session will be an opportunity for myself, along with environmental professionals, to answer any questions or concerns you may have.
While we await the results of further testing, I ensure you that students and staff will not return to Washington School until I receive notification that it is safe to reoccupy. Thank you for your support during this unexpected time. I remain confident that we will resolve this shortly.
