Restart and Recovery Planning

Dear Lyndhurst School Community:

As most of you are aware, on Friday, June 26th, Governor Murphy announced the New Jersey Department of Education's Restart and Recovery Plan (link here- Attachment: NJDOE- The Road Back.pdf) in anticipation of returning to school for the beginning of the 2020-2021 school year.  We waited anxiously for a number of weeks for guidance, and now that it has arrived, we can continue to move forward.  Our district is developing a Restart Committee and will ask for input from a number of district and township stakeholders.  Each community is different and we will look at your feedback and input to truly guide us in making what is most likely the most important decisions that we will ever have to make as educators and parents.  We will work tirelessly to ensure student/staff safety is at the forefront, while also ensuring that we are providing our children with an optimal educational experience.  By the first week in August, I will present detailed plans to the Lyndhurst Board of Education for approval, at a public meeting.  Some current options (also subject to change) include, but are not limited to:  opening all buildings/classes with some protocols based on guidance/recommendations, opening with a hybrid learning model (alternating schedule of some sort), and updating our remote/virtual closure plan in the case of a future school closure.  There are many options available to us and we are very aware that many people have different opinions as to what works for them based on evidence, as well as their own personal opinion/situation.

In addition to the Restart Committee, we will also look to establish a number of subcommittees that currently include (subject to change):

·      Facilities/Transportation/PPE

·      Food Service

·      Scheduling

·      Technology

·      Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment

·      Special Populations

·      Extra-Curricular/Co-Curricular Activities

·      Social/Emotional

More information specific to the roles of these specific subcommittees will soon follow.  We will be looking to ask parents to join us in the latter stages of our subcommittee planning to ensure that we have representation from various groups.  If you are interested in joining us, please e-mail me at anthonygrieco@lyndhurst.k12.nj.us.  You may also receive correspondence from building or district administrators.  The results of this committee work will be presented to the Lyndhurst Board of Education so that they can make an informed decision in developing a model to open school for students on September 2, 2020.  Starting next week, visit our website and check COVID-19 Information/Guidelines (left tab) at any time for updates on our progress.  Over the next several weeks, you may receive surveys related to your child’s re-entry needs.  It is important that throughout this process you have a voice in the decisions that will be made as we are creating these plans.  Please do your part in submitting all requests in a timely manner so we can analyze the data that we receive.  Your input will truly be used to make decisions that impact our students and staff.
